Research is honoured at conferences around the world.
In addition to studying quantum computing and perception, lecturers and researchers at the Faculty of Computing have written significant articles for prestigious international journals on hot topics like language technologies, big data, artificial intelligence, data quality, the Internet of Things, the Semantic Web, and other contemporary issues. These studies also involve the brightest students.
The faculty frequently hosts conferences that are important worldwide.
The organisation of conferences that are respected in Europe and around the world is evidence of global recognition and trust. A number of well-known and significant events have been organised by the Faculty of Computing, including ICALP 2013 (the 40th International Colloquium on Automation, Languages, and Programming), CCC 2017 (Computational Complexity Conference), ESSLLI 2019 (The European Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information), and TQC 2020 (15th Conference on the Theory of Quantum Computation, Communication, and Information), the second-most significant conference in quantum computing in the world.
Partnership with industry
Our collaboration with industrial firms is crucial because it enables us to establish study programmes, provide students with cutting-edge course materials, and add value to knowledge.
In addition to giving guest lectures, company representatives participate in final work commissions, councils, quality evaluation, study programme development, and course content creation. We place a lot of importance on businesses’ contributing to the improvement of lecturers’ qualifications and assuring their participation in a variety of business ventures. Companies frequently aid student initiatives by planning events and buying various supplies required for the learning process. In response, a “Big Data Analytics Module” has been developed in the master’s study programme where experts in the area can listen to and learn more.
One’s own scholarly journal, Baltic Journal of Modern Computing
Since 2013, the University of Latvia, Vilnius University, the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Latvia, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Liepaja University, and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences have collaborated to publish the Baltic Journal of Modern Computing electronically on a quarterly basis. Articles on computer science, software engineering, information technology, information systems, computer engineering, computer science didactics, and related topics are published in the journal.
The two most esteemed scientific publication indexes, Web of Science and Scopus, presently list the journal’s publications.
Students frequently take part in a variety of hackathons and other events.
