What is the International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT)?
The International Medical Admissions Test was designed and is administered by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) (IMAT). It is generally requirement to get admission in Italian Medical Universities. IMAT is required for the 16 public Italian universities that offer MD(Equal to MBBS in India) degrees taught in English. The IMAT is a 100-minute subject-specific admissions test administered in English to candidates for programmes in medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Both domestic and foreign students may enrol in these English-taught courses.
What Is The IMAT Exam’s Eligibility Criteria?
Students must meet some fundamental eligibility requirements in order to appear on each exam, and the same is true for this exam. The basic eligibility necessities are as follows:
- The student should have passed Class XII from a recognised board.
- The applicant must properly fill out the application form and give all the necessary information.
IMAT is a pen-and-paper based test, and it is consist of four sections:
- General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics and physics
Section 1: General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning
What exactly is tested?
General knowledge; problem-solving abilities; the ability to comprehend arguments; the ability to analyse data and draw conclusions.

Sections 2, 3, and 4: Scientific Knowledge
What is tested by it?
The capacity to use scientific knowledge from biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics classes.
Questions: 40 multiple-choice questions
The formula below is used to determine a candidate’s overall score:
- 5 points for each correct answer.
- 4 points for each wrong answer.
- 0 points for each question not responded.
An overall total score will be stated, together with a score for each section.
Where Can I Take An International Medical Entrance Test?
- Candidates can take the International Medical Entrance Examination in Italy or at testing facilities spread across more than 20 different nations.
- Candidates must rank the public Italian universities in order of preference in order to apply for any one spot in the medical programme.
- Candidates with dyslexia and candidates with disabilities are given additional time to finish the exam and apply for admission to the public university in Italy.
