How to apply to a Canadian institution as an overseas student, step-by-step (Part2)
- Apply to universities
As we previously said, the application procedure differs significantly from course to course and university to university. Contact the universities that interest you, and they will send you their own application packets that should walk you through the procedure.
Each university may charge an application fee for each programme that can range from about CA$100 (US$78) to CA$250 (US$195). Therefore, before submitting applications at random, make sure you are confident you would want to study there and that you match the requirements due to the high application costs.
Once your applications have been sent, all you can do is wait.
Congratulations if you are approved; that’s the first significant obstacle out of the way. You will get an admission letter if you confirm your intention to enrol at your chosen university. Keep this letter securely because you will need it in the future.
- Apply for your study permit
You must pay the CA$150 (US$117) approx. visa cost when applying for a visa in person or online at your local visa application centre.
You must submit the supporting documentation shown below:
- Letter of acceptance from DLI University
- Valid passport
- Current passport
- Proof can support self financially
You will also require a “Certificat d’acceptation du Québec” (CAQ), which your university will send you if you are studying in the province of Quebec.
You can be asked to present more proof, such as your fingerprints, which would set you back CA$83 (US$65), or an interview.
- Make preparations for your journey
Has your study permit been approved? Brilliant! Start making plans and pack your bag.
Verify your visa’s start date again to make sure you enter the country on time; unpleasant surprises at immigration are not the best way to begin your new life in Canada.
Finally, it’s time to start planning your accommodation and making travel arrangements, including booking flights, trains, boats, and other transportation. Have some time considering and researching whether you might like to live in hostels or a house, and inquire with your university about any assistance and support it might offer.
Additionally, you can finally mark a date on your calendar for the start of your Canadian adventure. Utilize packing advice to help you decide what else you might want to bring.
- Arrive in Canada and start your education there.
Keep all of your documentation easily available in your carry-on bag so that you can give Canadian immigration officials anything they require to verify your identity and the reason you are in the country. Enjoy that small thrill of excitement and enjoy being done with immigration once you are finished! You successfully completed the task.
It doesn’t seem as bad after being broken down, does it? Don’t forget to view and print the guide by visiting this page. This is just the beginning of a beautiful journey, so go outside and have fun.
The Canadian embassy and your university should always be consulted if you have any questions about the accuracy of the material.
