How to apply for admission to an Australian institution for foreign students-step-by-step (Part2)
3. Plan out your application strategy.
In contrast to the US and the UK, you can choose how you want to apply to universities in Australia. You can either use:
Yourself, directly via the university website, via a nearby university, or via a third party
Your choice is solely your own. Although hiring an agent can be expensive, they will help you every step of the way.
If you are a current student at a university, or even in high school or college, your institution could be ready to help you or offer resources that can. Alternately, utilise our advice to get by on your own; we swear we’ve made everything as simple as possible!
4. Pass the English language test.
If you are from a country where English is not the native tongue, you must take an English language proficiency test, the most well-known of which is the IELTS. The cost to schedule your test online through their website is approximately AU$300 (US$230).
Brush up on your English while practising by taking online practise tests. Keep a record of your exam results once you’ve taken it (and hopefully aced it), as you’ll need them for your visa application.
5. Submit college applications
The choice you made at step three will strongly influence how you approach this. You should have already selected your course(s), university(s), and application method by this point. You must now submit your applications on your own (or jointly with your agent/institution).
You will need to apply directly to institutions, so look at their websites and get in touch with the admissions staff to learn about their particular application procedures. For many, you could be required to create a personal statement to submit with your application, similar to the one used in the UK.
You will need to send it off on your own unless your agency or school will handle it for you or at least send it with you. Expect to fill out a lot of information about yourself, including your background, qualifications, and personal and professional information.
Then what? Nothing else can be done but wait…
You can keep yourself occupied in the interim by becoming familiar with the visa application procedure and assembling everything you’ll need if your application is granted.
received a proposal? Brilliant! As soon as you make your decision, notify the university so that you can receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter in time to submit your visa application.
