A manual for the PLAB exam
The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board test, known as the PLAB test, aids in ensuring that international physicians possess the knowledge and abilities necessary to practise medicine in the UK.
Do you have to pass the PLAB examination?
If you graduated from medical school outside of the UK, you will probably need to take the PLAB test., the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland. The PLAB test will decide whether you are proficient of performing the same tasks as a doctor beginning their second year of introductory training in the UK.
What exactly does the PLAB test entail?
The test consists of two sections. Part 1 of PLAB is a written multiple-choice test, with 180 single-best-answer questions. An OSCE is a practical, objective-structured clinical examination. Before you may submit an request for registration with a licence to practise medicine in the UK, you must pass both tests.
What is required before taking the PLAB?
You must create a GMC Online account and prove that your medical credentials and English language proficiency are acceptable before you can take the PLAB test. Your information will be checked, and if it satisfies our criteria, you can reserve your spot for the PLAB test’s part 1.
Part 1 of PLAB
There are 180 multiple-choice questions in the PLAB 1 written exam, and you have three hours to complete it. Each initiates with a brief setup, which is followed by a question. You must select the correct response from the five options provided. Part 1 is available outside of the UK in a number of other nations. Once you’ve logged into GMC Online, check out the locations and dates that are available.
Part 2 of PLAB
PLAB 2 is an objective, structured clinical exam. It has 16 scenarios, each lasting eight minutes, and seeks to replicate real-world conditions like a simulated consultation or an acute ward. At our clinical assessment centre, Part 2 exams are administered all year long.
What happens once you pass PLABs 1 and 2?
After passing both tests, you can submit an application for registration and a practise licence. Your application must be granted within two years after passing part 2 of the test. You can practise medicine in the UK once the GMC approves your application and you are registered.
