How to get an Australian student visa
You must get an Australian student visa in order to study there. The following prerequisites must be satisfied in order to qualify for an Australian student visa, and you must be able to prove it to the Department of Home Affairs:
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirements
Financial requirements
English proficiency requirements:
Health and character requirements
You’ll also need to fill out an application for an Australian student visa, pay the visa application fee, and maybe go to an interview.
A Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) is what, exactly?
According to the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria, which was put in place in November 2011, the visa application must be able to show that they have a sincere desire to visit Australia temporarily in order to study or be a dependent on a student (i.e., spouse, child, or guardian).
Submitting a form for an Australian student visa
The visa that you must apply for online is the Student Visa (Subclass 500), which is required of all international students.
Before filing a visa application, you must have a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) or a Letter of Offer confirming your acceptance into a programme listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions of Courses (CRICOS). You will be given a code for the COE that you must enter into the appropriate box on the online visa application. Additionally, you might need to pay a deposit toward your tuition.
Financial requirements: Proof of having enough money to pay for school, travel, and living expenses. The amount you must demonstrate you have for living expenses (apart from tuition and travel) is set at AU$21,041 (about US$14,185) for a year as of February 2018. If you have dependents, such as a spouse or children, you will also need to provide proof that you can afford to pay for their living expenses, which includes their school expenses. As an alternative, you can provide proof that your partner or parents can support you and that they make at least AU$62,222 (about US$41,949) annually.
English proficiency requirement: You must demonstrate that you can speak English at the necessary level if you are not from an English-speaking nation and have not studied there for at least five years. The IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, and Cambridge Advanced English are among the tests that can be used (CAE).
Health requirements: To verify their physical health, some students may be required to undergo medical and/or radiological examinations (this applies, for example, to those who intend to train as a doctor, dentist or nurse).
Character requirements: To enter Australia, you must meet the conditions for an Australian student visa. To ensure you don’t have a serious criminal history, this also includes a criminal record check.
Processing time for 50% of visa requests is four weeks. Your visa will typically be valid for two months after your course is over if it lasts longer than 10 months and ends in January through October.
At the conclusion of your course, it might be feasible in some cases to submit an application for another visa (consult the Department of Home Affairs website for more details).
